Do I need my own scales?

You need readings from scales that weigh individual wheels or axles: your own portable scales, or the readings a mobile weighing service gives you. If you only have a weighbridge ticket, use the weighbridge option instead; with no weights at all, start with the towing calculator.

Which brands of scales work?

Know My Tow doesn't depend on a particular brand. Enter the numbers your scales show for each wheel or axle, in kilograms.

What if I can't weigh every wheel?

You can continue with readings missing, but any check that relies on a missing reading can't be fully assessed. For a single-axle van unhitched you can enter one axle total; a total from one pad won't give a left/right balance.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start without one and see the overall result. Sign in free to see every gauge and figure, save the weigh-in and download a printable report. Some manufacturer specification panels are part of the paid plans.

Can it account for a weight distribution hitch?

Yes, when you're signed in. The weigh-in can include an optional weight distribution hitch pass: weigh the car again with the hitch tensioned and the results show its effect.

Is the result a compliance certificate?

No. It compares your readings with the ratings available for your vehicle and the plate figures you enter. Confirm limits on the vehicle, towbar and caravan plates, and follow your state's rules.
