Where do I find my caravan's GTM?

On the caravan's identification plate (usually on the drawbar or the front of the van) and in its handbook. Some older or smaller trailers only show the ATM.

Is GTM the same as ATM?

No. ATM is the trailer's total maximum weight measured uncoupled; GTM is the maximum load on its axles while hitched. GTM is always the lower figure.

Does GTM decide my trailer's category?

Yes. The Australian Design Rules group trailers by GTM: TA (single axle, up to 0.75 t), TB (up to 3.5 t), TC (over 3.5 t, up to 10 t) and TD (over 10 t). Brake requirements, though, are set by ATM.
