My new car doesn't have a compliance plate. Is that a problem?

No. Vehicles approved under the Road Vehicle Standards Act since July 2021 are recorded on the Register of Approved Vehicles and carry a secure identification label instead. Search the RAV by VIN to see the approved details.

Does the compliance plate show towing capacity?

Usually not. Towing capacity is in the owner's manual. The tow bar also has its own rating label, and the lower of the two applies.

What's the date on the compliance plate?

The date the vehicle was built or complied, not when it was first registered — which is why the plate date and the model year can differ.
